I have grown to realize one important part of my EDC knife is that it is not just a box opener, it has to be the knife I have with me in an emergency situation, both natural disasters and roadside accidents. It should have Rescue abilities. By this, I mean a window breaker and seat belt cutter. A small attached LED light and a Ferrocerium rod is an advantage, since this may be all I have in a SHTF situation. I like a hefty 3" to 3 1/2" blade, with at least 1" serrated edge since this is going to be my knife for making kindling and tender. If I have to be on my own for a while, the ability to gut fish and small game is important. Since both my thumbs have been rebuilt, a spring or gravity assisted, locking blade, with a thumb stud is important. My hands need all the help they can get.

In reply to <a href="https://www.betterpocketknife.com/articles/best-edc-knife/#comment-781">ricardo</a>.

The Cat does look like a great EDC option. I like the wire pocket clip too. Looks like it would allow for a deeper carry in pocket. It doesn't seem to offer tip down carry though. Personally would not a problem for me since I carry tip up, but would be an issue for some people.

My previous EDC is the Ontario Rat 1. I now have a Spyderco Cat 2.5 blade with 440C steel. This knife has a wire low carry pocket clip and G10 scales and a liner lock. I purchased this knife on Amazon for 39.99 dollars. In my opinion the Cat beats the Persistence as the best EDC.
