If it&#039;s emergency self defense (or a tactical knife), then it definitely needs jimping. If it&#039;s just an EDC blade, it&#039;s optional, preferred, but optional. Really if a knife doesn&#039;t have jimping I most likely won&#039;t use it for emergency self defense.]]></description>
